Chinese Baker Wins At UK Cake Competition

 

34-year old, Zhou Yi is a Chinese Patissier, and the first one of his kind in Chinese history who won three gold medals and two bronze medals at the world’s largest cake competition held in UK.  Zhou’s exquisite creation of ‘Lady in the Palace’- an intricate fondant cake featuring Empress Wu Zetian won the top prize at the cake competition in Birmingham.  “I originally wanted to create a Chinese emperor figure, then I thought adding some feminine quality to this image might be great,” Zhou said. “That’s how I came up with the Wu Zetian idea.”  Another cake ‘Lie Drunk in Nepenthic Land’ won a bronze metal despite the unwavering hard work put into it because the cake’s crust was too thick to cut, which was actually against the rules of the competition.  Another entry by Zhou’s team featured the iconic Chinese literary character the Monkey King and won a gold medal at the competition.  Zhou Yi has been given the nickname of ‘Sugar King’ by his team for his love for confectioners.

Zhou’s high-quality creation of ‘Lady in the Palace’- an elaborate fondant cake offering Empress Wu Zetian gained the pinnacle prize at the cake competition in Birmingham.


“I firstly desired to create a Chinese emperor figure, then I thought adding a few female great to this image might be great,” Zhou said. “That’s how I came up with the Wu Zetian concept.”


Another cake ‘Lie Drunk in Nepenthic Land’ received a bronze metallic in spite of the unwavering hard work put into it because the cake’s crust changed into too thick to cut, which turned into definitely in opposition to the regulations of the competition.


Another access by Zhou’s crew featured the enduring Chinese literary person the Monkey King and won a gold medal on the competition.


Zhou Yi has been given the nickname of ‘Sugar King’ via his group for his love for confectioners.
